Ayurveda is a traditional, centuries-old form of medicine practiced in Sri Lanka since 3,000 years ago; and whose name means “science of life”. Moreover, this ancient medical science combines elements; rooted in the Ayurveda and Siddha systems from India; with the Unani medicine from Greece as well as with indigenous medicine.
Also, Ayurveda has a holistic approach to health and human wellbeing; based on herbs and diet. Sri Lanka boasts an abundant supply of medicinal plants, herbs, and spices; which are useful not only to heal specific diseases or ailments; but also to boost the overall wellbeing of the patient; and to promote harmony among the human body, mind, and spirit.
